What if schools were ours to imagine?

We're working on a new collection of activities with our research partners Repair-Ed to find out.

What are your most memorable moments at school? How would you change school to make it better for everyone?

These are the questions we’re asking with our partners Reparative Futures of Education (Repair-Ed) from the University of Oxford, as we develop our joint programme which will be coming to our Open City Lab in July 2026 in time for the summer holidays.

This collaboration builds on the team’s existing work which explores people’s experiences of schooling in relation to racial and class inequality in Bristol and how schools could be made fairer in future.

We’re bringing together our expertise in making active research accessible for all ages with our expert facilitators the Live Science Team, bringing it to life in venue.

Activities will include a multisensory exploration of real stories from the People’s History of Schooling, and a gallery of visitor’s clay creations that invites conversation between visitors about what would make school fairer for all.

Visitors taking part in the activities will help researchers understand people’s experiences of fairness at schools both past and present, and what people hope the future of schooling looks like.

We can’t wait to see what visitors to the Open City Lab create when this activity launches this summer!

This activity forms part of our Open City Research pledge, which is all about opening up science research so everyone can be a part of it.
