What kind of curious are you? 

Come to Open City Lab to be a part of real research and explore 5 types of curiosity through space themed activities.

You could be: 

  • An Explorer: use your senses to explore out of this world destinations. Find out what Jupiter’s clouds smell like and hear sounds from Mars.
  • A People Person: how are astronauts chosen and what would you need to know to decide who you would want to spend time with on a long haul space mission?
  • An Experimenter: discover hidden colours in inks using chromatography and find out how similar processes are used in the search for extra-terrestrial life.
  • A Problem Solver: solve puzzles and figure out what you’d need to survive on the Moon.
  • A Wonderer: be wowed by drawings and questions about life the universe and everything, and add your own.  

You'll learn about space science, collect stamps in your ‘Passport to the Stars’ as you complete activities and answer questions that help researcher Dr Fidelia Law from the University of Bristol’s School of Education. 

Fidelia is exploring how different types of curiosity could guide more people from underrepresented groups towards careers in STEM. 

At the end you can trade in the passport for a badge to show off your curiosity.

This activity takes place in a slight enclosed ground floor space that is wheelchair accessible with a lot of room between tables and information stands. 

It's led by a facilitator capable of being responsive to audience needs and making reasonable adjustments.

The activity involves a loud/sudden noise that may be upsetting to some visitors.

Part of this activity also involves potent smell pots that aren't asthma or allergy risks.
