Plants need water, soil and sun to survive, right?
What if we told you there are impossible plants which can survive without them.

Who for
Recommended age 3+
Join us in the Greenhouse to explore what plants need to survive and find out how some plants do the impossible - growing without water and soil.
You'll get to do some messy hands-on exploration of soil to find out why some plants can grow without it and get a mini kit of materials to make your own DIY terrarium at home, using an old spice jar to create your own mini ecosystem.
Important information:
There will be daily drop-in sessions lasting 30 mins. No need to book - check the Greenhouse/foyer noticeboard for times on the day.
*We’re doing a spot of repair work to some leaks which have sprung up in recent rainy periods, on our North Gallery space from 2 – 11 December.
This means that a small number of our exhibits will be closed off, including The Greenhouse, but we’ll be open throughout the works.
The rest of the venue will be open as usual, along with our Planetarium, and other spaces such as Project What If, Build It (under 8s) and Tinkering Space.*
