We The Curious ticket types and free entry, one of the ways we Include Everyone

Tuesday 27 August | Jen Forster

We get lots of questions about our tickets, so we thought we’d put a bit of information together about our different ticket types and free entry policies.

Who we are:
We The Curious is an educational charity with a mission to connect people through creative experiences that celebrate science.

We don’t receive any direct central government funding (which means that we’re not connected to any taxes paid), and so we rely on ongoing, valuable support from our visitors, members, trustees, grantmakers, corporate partners and volunteers.

The income from ticket sales, donations and fundraising keeps our doors open and means we can run our charitable projects - by buying a ticket with us, you’re supporting our work as a charity, thank you.

What we do:
As a charity, we have a responsibility to create an environment that welcomes everyone and reflects the diversity of the city.

We’re committed to promoting equity and inclusion in all aspects of our work. As part of our commitment to inclusion, we look to build strong, sustainable relationships with under-represented groups from across Bristol.

Working with partners, key community groups and critical friends in Bristol and beyond is an integral part of our strategy, with their valuable insight and feedback helping to shape our plans and activities together.

Ticket types:
We have lots of types of visitors – and so we have lots of ticket types. These include day tickets, memberships, open concession tickets and community memberships. You'll find all information about our tickets on the Ticket Info page of our website.

  • Our open concessions are a more accessible version of our previous concession ticket. This is the ticket for you if you would ordinarily qualify for a concession. We don't require you to bring any proof of your concession status. If our standard prices are simply out of reach at the moment, you can also opt for our open concession ticket - no questions asked.

  • Our Community Membership programme is tailored for charities, not-for-profit services, and groups who face barriers to accessing We The Curious. We work with Bristol charities and services including council services such as the family and child services, children’s centres and community centres in priority wards with our Community Membership programme. This includes groups such as young carers or disabled adults.

  • Personal assistants (carers, personal assistants and support workers), foster parents and under 2s also go for free – tickets do need to be booked for all free tickets, so that we can manage capacity and seating.

  • We offer free entry for refugees and asylum seekers – it’s one of many initiatives we run to support those who are often marginalized in our communities and may have limited access to educational and cultural experiences. It’s something that we’ve done since 2017. Along with other organisations in Bristol, we signed a City of Sanctuary pledge, a national initiative aimed at providing a welcoming and safe place for all. Our offer to refugees and asylum seekers is designed to extend a warm welcome to families from these communities currently living in Bristol.

More info:
We hope that this range of ticket types and programmes provide valuable opportunities for families and friends to enjoy time together during challenging periods in their lives.

We’re always seeking ways to be more inclusive. We run regular reviews which actively looks at the audiences who visits us, and who doesn’t – so that we can take steps to address any gaps.

If you’ve got any suggestions for improvements, including new ticket types or groups we should collaborate with, then please do get in touch – drop us a line - we very much welcome feedback and suggestions.
