Get Wild Whatever The Weather in At-Bristol this May half term!

Wednesday 18 May | Jen Forster

This May half term (28 May – 5 June) in At-Bristol Science Centre, visitors will be able to get wild, whatever the weather outside, with gravity-defying herbs in the Greenhouse, dissecting daffodils in Live Lab, and the brand new Summer Stargazing show in the Planetarium. There is something for everyone!

‘Nature Lab’ will be taking over the Live Lab area; as visitors will be able to celebrate nature’s party season by exploring the science of living things! Think like a bee and find out how they feed, get up close to growing things and become a nature detective by learning to survey the wildlife in your garden.  Special lab-bench activities include tulip and daffodil dissection, which is aimed at children aged 7+.

At-Bristol’s Food exhibition will play host to the Spring Kitchen where visitors will be able to get hands-on (and mouths-on) with some chocolate chemistry, and trying their hands at making some ‘M-Egg-a-Structures’. In the Greenhouse, visitors can also make their own gravity-defying sprouting experiment to take home!

Regular presenter-led shows will be running in the Planetarium*, with the brand new ‘Summer Stargazing’ 3D show showcasing what’s in the night sky right now, including a spectacular flight through the rings of Saturn, as well as a topical section featuring the latest news. There will also be the Exploring the Solar System’ show  (in 2D or 3D), as well as the ‘Space Explorers’ show (2D) for under 6s, allowing them to venture in to space and become fully trained space explorers! Little explorers can also take part in immersive storytelling sessions, running daily throughout May half term.

The ‘Good Vibrations’ live science show will run daily, exploring the science behind sound and music. From under the sea to outer space, visitors will be able to hear and feel vibrations as the Live Science Team presenters create some immersive sonic experiments, and of course there will be some audience participation!

All of the activities above are included in the general admission prices, as well as over 250 hands-on exhibits. At-Bristol is open 10-6 daily throughout the May half term holiday period (28 May – 5 June, including Bank Holiday Monday). For further information and to book tickets, please visit at-bristol.org.uk (with 5% discount for booking online) or call 0117 915 1000 (9-5 Monday-Friday excluding Bank Holidays).

*Planetarium shows cost £2 per seat for a 2D show, or £3 per seat for a 3D show. Booking in advance is strongly advised (especially in busy holiday periods as Planetarium shows do sell out quickly), and 3D shows are only available for children aged 6 and over.
