Fancy a night out with a difference? Check out After Hours in At-Bristol!
Thursday 27 October | Jen Forster
At-Bristol Science Centre will be opening its doors for two evening events with a twist, in the next in its popular ‘After Hours’ events. ‘After Hours: Light’ will be on 3 November, and ‘After Hours: Feast’ on 8 December.
The latest in the series of sell-out adult events from At-Bristol, the evening gives visitors the chance to come and play on hundreds of exhibits, all with no kids in sight and a drink in hand! Each evening always has a different theme, with special activities around the venue which reflect that theme.
Working with the theme of light, the November After Hours event will feature the following activities in addition to over 250 exhibits, and Planetarium* shows:
- Check out The Box presents: Resonator – featuring a light installation by Paul Friedlander, kinetic light sculptor and scientific artist.
- Rainbow ice cream bar – discover the science of colour with liquid nitrogen ice cream.
- Enter the world of proto-photography and create your own bewitching cyanotype photogram.
- Pose for intricate laser cut Victorian silhouettes for your family gallery in the new Tinkering Space exhibition.
At-Bristol’s ice rink will also be launched that night (open 5 November – 3 January), with a spectacular firework display at 6.15, just before doors open for After Hours, so everyone can come and see!
For December’s ‘Feast’ After Hours, visitors will be exploring the science of flavour with:
- Molecular Gastronomy Christmas dinner – enjoy a molecular deconstruction of a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, including roast potato glass, brussels sprout spheres and mulled wine vapours.
- The flavour of percussion - what can it be? Artist Sabrina Shirazi will be running a workshop based on her work OPUS to explore the tastebuds triggered by percussion.
Visitors can also take a trip to the stars in the UK’s first 3D Planetarium*, with a presenter-led tour of the glittering night sky. Visitors to After Hours: Light (3 Nov) can go on a tour of the Galaxy with the ‘Exploring the Galaxy’ 3D show, and visitors to After Hours: Feast (6 Dec) can explore the December sky with ‘Winter Stargazing’ 3D.
With over 250 interactive exhibits to discover there is plenty to entertain – both After Hours events run from 6.30-10pm. Entry is £8/£7 (concessions), and discounted group rates are available. Visit www.at-bristol.org.uk or call our Bookings team on 0117 915 1000 (9-5 Monday – Friday) for more information and to book tickets.
