Today marks the start of British Science Week, a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths. There are events and activities happening all across the UK for people of all ages.
Here in At-Bristol, we’re celebrating by running specially developed workshops, theme-days and science shows for thousands of school children! We’re also holding a one-off programming workshop LEGO® Robotics – Girls plus one for the launch of Bristol Girls Make It!
We want to encourage everyone to try some hands-on science demos at home! So, to celebrate British Science Week here are 5 brilliant Do Try This At Home videos to try out this week:
1. How to measure the speed of light - with CHOCOLATE! Try out some kitchen quantum mechanics and eat the results.
2. How to make a barometer. Want to predict the weather? Make this simple tool to measure changes in air pressure.
3. How to calculate pi by throwing sausages. Yep, you heard it, sausage maths! You can also use anything long, straight and the same length.
4. How to make a catapult. Ready, aim, fire! Try out some medieval physics as you build and modify your own catapult.
5. How to make something invisible. In our most popular video, Ross shows you how a trick of light can make things disappear.
